Where We Live

An introduction to the key concepts of urban design aimed at anyone who wants to grasp the basics.

The South East England Development Agency (SEEDA) and the Solent Centre for Architecture and Design (SCAD) defined a need for a publication that provided people with an introduction to the key concepts of good urban design.

Deer Park Alpha were appointed to research, write, illustrate and design the beginner's guide aimed at anyone who wants to grasp the basics. Where We Live is a tool to explain the terms associated with urban design and the built environment, in a clear, concise and engaging way.

Each page is rich in content, with a clear and simple message delivered through illustration and the main body of text. It breaks down a large subject area into manageable chunks ordered to unravel and demystify the language of urban development.
