SPUD

Pro-bono teaching of young people in design and with the Solent Centre for Architecture.

As part of our continued relationship with the Solent Centre for Architecture, we agreed to work pro-bono on this innovative and worthwhile project with young people.

SPUD is the name of a new network of architectural youth groups across southern Hampshire. The first group was set up in Eastleigh and two more groups have been launched in Portsmouth and Southampton. Each group consists of young people aged 14-19 years old who are interested in the built environment and interested in helping influence the future of their towns and cities. Each group has a specific design project and worked with an architectural practice, Planning Aid and their local authority to develop concept designs for the chosen areas.

In Portsmouth with looked at the large Tipner regeneration site. It is a current project within the city and is a gateway site to the city. It was also chosen as it links to our The Route project.

The project was a great success in 2010 and for 2011 will be expanded into a series of summer schools. We were commissioned to produce a brochure to promote the project. See our SPUD Brochure project.
