Teaching Urban Design
Developing creative lessons for students at Quilley School of Engineering in Eastleigh, Hampshire
We worked with Quilley School across nearly two terms on various projects from poems to urban design walks in Eastleigh town centre. We worked with students in lessons that looked at the design of their local town. Working with staff and students we developed creative ways to observe and record not only how a place looks but also how it feels.
We also took part in the schools Engineering day, running a day long workshop.
Students learned how to plan and build a temporary prototype shelter that could be used to provide basic needs following a disaster. During the workshop students developed skills in working as a team, collaboration, selecting and prioritising materials, planning and decision making and design. All had lots of fun despite the weather or rather because of it!
The Workshops were recorded by students in the form of a comic and uploaded to a website (which you can see here) to provide a resource for future Engineering Days.
We produced a series of publications showing the work done with the school over the year.
