Specialist Architectural Practice

One of our most successful education projects to date. The school identified a problem with year 2 pupils moving into the larger Junior playground. Pupils felt anxious about the change to something bigger and unknown. Aware of our work in urban design and community involvement, the school, through Creative Partnerships, asked us to develop a series of lessons that tried to tackle the problem. We devised a plan that involved the designing of a space ship that the children travelled in together into the larger playground. There they met some of the older children who read specially prepared stories.
We were delighted to hear the following year the positive effect the project had on the children involved.
“The project involved Year 2 pupils. As a through Primary school we had assumed that transition from Year 2 to 3 was smooth but Keele survey feedback showed us that new Year 3 pupils found the larger Junior playground to be an intimidating place.
The team worked with the children in their last term in Year 2 to explore how they
could make imaginary worlds and safe places on the larger outdoor space. The outcomes
for the pupils were wonderful -
