‘Know Your Place’ - Design Workshops
Educating communities in Wales about the design of where they live.
The Welsh Assembly Government through their advisory body Design Commission for Wales (DCFW) developed Know Your Place to educate communities in what makes their town or village distinctive.
DCFW approached Deer Park Alpha to work with them on Know Your Place having seen their urban design book Where We Live and The Route project. DPA designed and ran six extensive Know Your Place workshops across Wales. The workshops focused on sense of place, how design effects how places works and asked citizens to think about and articulate what they value about where they live.
Deer Park Alpha designed innovative workshops that break down complex subjects into manageable, interesting and useful activities. In addition to the design and running of the workshops we designed a website and branding for the project. We were invited to speak about the project at Wales 09:09 architecture and design symposium in Cardiff.
The Know Your Place workshops took place in Builth Wells, Pontypool, Bridgend, Porthcawl, Llangefni and Holyhead. An information pack is being compiled. Askyra helped us with this project.
