Royal Naval Club Bar

The innovative use of model ships to make a stunning new bar at the Royal Naval Club in Portsmouth.

We have an ulterior motive here: Our office sits right over the bar on the floor above! A new superior bar would be great for us and members. We showed the Club board our past experience in interior design and they asked us to develop a design for a new bar. They knew exactly where they wanted it, but not quite how they wanted it to look.

We developed a solution which involved providing twenty-percent more covers and easier and more discreet access for staff to back of house areas. Building on our ideas of reusing products in our Celebrity Selections project we unearthed some remarkable old model ships in various cupboards and corners in the Club. These formed the dramatic front to the new bar. Carefully positioned and in a glass display case with brass edges and fittings, the ships bring the bar area to life.

An entirely new colour scheme, fabric, carpet and furnishings complete the new look. The project is currently in the costing and detailed design stage.
